A good Diablo 4 build usually starts with one useful effect, then grows around it. That is why Aspects matter so much: they can change how a skill behaves, fix a resource problem, or give a fragile character a bit more breathing room. When comparing D4 items, it is worth looking past the item power for a second. A Legendary with an Aspect your build needs may be more valuable than a higher-numbered drop that does nothing for your playstyle.

Your Codex does the heavy lifting
The Codex of Power is no longer just a small collection of backup effects you unlock and forget about. These days, it works as a growing library. Salvage a Legendary at the Blacksmith and its Aspect is added to the Codex, or improved if the roll is better than the one you already had. You do not need to keep stacks of extracted powers in storage anymore. That old habit caught plenty of players out at launch, and thankfully it is gone. Once an Aspect is in the Codex, you can keep using it whenever you have the materials to imprint it.

Dungeon rewards still help early builds
Dungeons are a handy way to chase specific foundations while levelling. If your class needs a defensive trigger, movement bonus, or a cleaner way to restore resource, check the Codex and see whether a dungeon points you in the right direction. It is a much better plan than hoping a random drop appears at level 30. The first version you unlock may not have the strongest possible numbers, but that is not really the point. It gives the build a working shape early on, and you can replace or upgrade that power after better Legendary drops start showing up.

A simple gear routine
You will get better results if you treat every Legendary drop as either equipment or a Codex upgrade. Before selling anything, give it a quick look. A few small checks save a lot of regret.
  • Keep the item if its affixes and Aspect both suit your current build.
  • Salvage it if the Aspect improves your Codex roll.
  • Imprint a strong Rare item when it has the stats you actually want.
  • Hold off on costly changes if you expect to replace the item in a few levels.

Use the Occultist with a purpose
The Occultist is where those saved powers become part of your gear plan. Look for the triskelion icon in a major town, then open the imprint menu and match an Aspect to a suitable slot. Weapons, amulets, rings, armour pieces-each choice can change the strength or role of an effect, so do not just pick the first spare item in your bag. As you reach tougher content, materials and cheap Diablo IV Gold can help cover repeated crafting costs, but smart timing matters more than constant rerolling. Save the bigger upgrades for gear you expect to wear for a while.
